DOCTORS


Dr. Hein

Anjuli Hein, DVM– Medical Director
Dr. Hein was born and raised on a ranch in Kremmling, a small town in Northwestern Colorado.  She graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Biology and then continued on to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University in 2007. After graduation, she moved to Salida,CO to work in a mixed-animal practice and then joined the ITAH team in 2008. 

Her professional interests include internal medicine, preventive care, and alternative medicine.  Dr. Hein and her husband have two dogs, named Mosley and Olive, and enjoy skiing, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

Dr. Tomoko

Tomoko Jensen-Otsu, DVM
Dr.Tomoko was born in California and spent her childhood in many places including Calgary, Alaska, and New Jersey.  She received her bachelor of science with honors in physics from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  She then spent four years working in the nuclear energy industry at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington and then at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington D.C.  She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 2007 and moved to Colorado shortly after graduation.

Her professional interests include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine, and practice management.  She spends her free time mountain biking, road biking, running, hiking, climbing, camping, and just about anything that involves being in the outdoors.  She lives with her husband, four dogs (Max, Cody, Dixie, and Naner), and a very large orange cat named Gilbert.

Dr. Ungar

Lauren Ungar, DVM 
Dr. Ungar was born and raised on Long Island in New York. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and then headed south to the Caribbean island of St. Kitts where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University. After graduation in 2003, she and her (now) husband, Todd, moved to Colorado where they have called home ever since.

Dr. Ungar's professional interests include internal and preventative medicine, ophthalmology, emergency medicine, and soft tissue surgery. She lives in Denver with her husband and daughter, along with their dogs, Ruby and Monkey and their cat, Serena. They spend their free time enjoying the great Colorado outdoors and love traveling, skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, running, and camping.

Lesley Leach, DVM
Dr. Leach joined the ITAH team in the Spring of 2010. She received her BA in Zoology and Biology at the University of Wyoming. She then went on to graduate with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 2006. Before coming to Indian Tree Animal Hospital, Dr. Leach spent her time as a Veterinarian in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado.  

She enjoys traveling, cooking and skydiving. When she is not being adventurous, she spends her time with her two cats named DJ Scratch and Cleitus.

Dr. Pete
 
Pete DeTolve, DVM
Dr. DeTolve was raised in Michigan and attended Michigan State University for both undergraduate and veterinary school.  After graduation from the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007, he spent one year in Sacramento, California completing a medical/surgical internship.  He moved to Colorado in 2008 where he has been practicing emergency medicine and general practice. 
 

His professional interests include emergency medicine and surgery, dentistry/oral surgery, and preventative care. Dr. DeTolve’s personal interests include snowboarding, cycling, hiking, golf, and cooking. He and his wife live with five dogs (Earl, Hans, Hailey, Max Potato, and Small Man), two cats (Zumina and Smat), and four chickens (Henrietta, Lulu Belle, Maude, and Esmerelda).

 
 
 

VETERINARY NURSES

 

Janine,CVT-Technician Supervisor

Janine joined the ITAH team in the Summer of 2010. Janine previously worked as an Animal Control Officer and has practiced as a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2004. She obtained her Associate in Applied Science degree for Veterinary Techology from Bel Rea. Originally from Michigan, she enjoys spending time outdoors camping and hiking with her husband and her dog "Delirium". Janine also shares her home with seven chickens. She enjoys small animal dentistry and working with exoctic pets.

Libby

Libby, CVT
 

Libby joined Indian Tree Animal Hospital in 2009. Before joining us, she was working as an at-home nanny while she completed her Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Libby is enthusiastic and shows a genuine love for animals which shows in her day-to-day duties. She works closely with our veterinarians and clients, striving to make each veterinary visit as positive as possible for both client and patient. She enjoys hiking, swimming, gardening, crafting and spending time with her family and friends. Libby and her husband share their home with their chickens and two dogs named Nina (spaniel mix) and Lola (catahoula mix).

 

 

Natasha, LVT
Natasha joined the team at ITAH in the summer of 2010. She is originally from California where she started her career of working with animals. She then went on to graduate as a Licensed Veterinary Technician from Pima Medical Institute in Las Vegas. After working within small animal practices, she moved to New Jersey for a year to manage an animal hospital. Natasha enjoys canine rehabilitation and massage, as well as small animal dentistry. She also enjoys working with the seals and sea lions while volunteering at the Denver Zoo, fishing, traveling, and biking. Natasha shares her home with her boyfriend , three pugs (Peachy Chan, Peanut and Daisy), one Boston terrier (Spokes) and two cats (Kitty  and Lil' Pew).

 

Kathleen, CVT
Kathleen joined the ITAH team in the fall of 2010. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree at Western State and then moved to Colorado to graduate from Bel Rea with her Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. She shares her home with her dog (Kobe) and her three cats (Jerry, Pella and Deewee).  Originally from Ohio, she enjoys spending her time in the mountains of Colorado snowboarding and hiking.

 

Beatrice - Veterinary Assistant
Beatrice joined Indian Tree Animal Hospital in the fall of 2011. She has been working in the veterinary industry for over six years and gained her Veterinary Assistant certificate from Pima Medical Institute in 2005. She has a special interest in surgeries and working with clients. She lives in Arvada with her husband, son, and cat named Carnifex.

  

Aunica - Kennel Technician/Veterinary Assistant
Aunica joined the ITAH team in the Summer of 2011. She received her Veterinary Assistant certificate at Pima Medical Institute. She enjoys helping out with any tasks to help with the animals staying with us. She enjoys spending time outside hiking with her beagle/corgi mix named Lacey.

 

Brenda - Kennel Technician/Veterinary Assistant
Brenda joined Indian Tree in the fall of 2011. She has worked in the veterinary field for over seven years and gained her Veterinary Assistant certificate from Pima Medical Institute in 2004. She also holds an Associate of Applied Business degree from Edison Community College in Ohio. She enjoys reading and hiking, and shares her home with her husband, son, and two cats named Nermal and Elway.

 Amanda

Amanda “AJ” - CCR Supervisor 
Amanda had worked at the Dolphin Research Center in Florida prior to joining ITAH in 2009. Her compassion and love of animals is apparent in everything she does here. Amanda especially enjoys interacting with clients and their pets. Amanda also enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and cooking. Amanda shares her home with 6 parakeets, Panzer a Doberman, Ruby a Poodle, and a hedgehog.

 
Deja - CCR
Deja joined the team in the Spring of 2011. She enjoys learning new things about working at an animal hospital. Deja is a Colorado native, but she has also lived in Florida and Indiana. She has a Bachelors degree in Applied Sciences and has taught classes at Heritage College. Her hobbies are camping and spending time outdoors.

 
Megan

Megan - CCR
Megan joined Indian Tree Animal Hospital in the Spring of 2009. She has worked in one other veterinary hospital, for a total of five years. Megan had first started her career as a kennel technician, then moved to veterinary nurse, and has settled into reception; a place she considers her niche. Megan shows a great deal of passion and care in everything she does, and her smile is sure to light up the room! She and her husband Greg share their home with Lila, a chocolate lab, Sophie, a corgi mix, two cats named Rio and Angel, and an assortment of freshwater fish.

 
Tamara - CCR
Tamara joined the Indian Tree family in the Summer of 2011. She is currently going back to school at Bel-Rea to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. She has a Bachelors in Marketing and Publicity. She is enjoying learning about working with animals on both sides of the job. Five years ago, Tamara moved from Brazil to continue her education in the United States. Her hobbies are hiking with her husband & spending time with her two cats “Merlin” and “Jovi”.

 

 

 

MANAGEMENT

 

Mitch Kramer, DVM - Owner/President

Dr. Kramer was born in New York and moved to Colorado in his early teens. He attended Colorado State University and received his undergraduate degree in Biology in 1986 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. When Dr. Kramer opened Indian Tree Animal Hospital, he practiced full-time as the clinic’s only veterinarian. Since then, many more veterinarians have joined him, and he now works completely in a managerial role.

His interests include travel and wildlife photography. Photos from his trips to Tanzania can be seen throughout the hospital. Dr. Kramer has a son and two cats, named Isabelle and Casey.

Gretchen

Gretchen,CVT - Hospital Manager

Gretchen has been with the hospital since 2008. She graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1988. Prior to ITAH, she was the Art Director for 19 years and always had a calling for working in the veterinary field. She decided to return to school to pursue her passion and graduated from Bel-Rea as a Certified Veterinary Technician. Gretchen enjoys the interaction with our clients and their pets and has a special interest in internal medicine. Gretchen enjoys travelling, movies, camping, and snorkeling. She ans her husband share their home with their two cats Archie, and Lenny, and two dogs Sophie and Chloe.
 

 

Casey - Hospital Cat
Casey has been our front desk "greeter" to all friends since early 2000. He enjoys naps in the sun, playing with paperclips, and lounging on our monitor screens. Feel free to give him a rub the next time you visit!
