The Realities of Hydrogen Peroxide

“Hydrogen peroxide is used much less today… [Because] it causes tissue destruction at…wound edges which can make healing slower”. “Three-percent H2O2…has little value as an antiseptic and is extremely toxic to tissues.” [Hydrogen Peroxide is] “very caustic and will damage healthy tissues…”

The doctors and staff at ITAH do not recommend using Hydrogen Peroxide at all, even to clean our animal’s wounds. It is especially important toNOT soak your pet’s wounds in Hydrogen Peroxide.  This can cause major tissue damage and lead to higher costs for healing.  We recommend cleaning with very dilute Betadine Solution and bringing your friend in to see us! We’ve seen a lot of damage done by using H2O2, which can result in more time and money spent with us! As always, if you have ANY questions or concerns give us a call.

WE HAVE REDUCED OUR SPAY AND NEUTER PRICING!!!

Please read below for the benefits to spay/neuter your pet:

Facts about spaying your dog:

Surgical sterilization of the female dog, commonly referred to as spaying, is one of the most significant aspects of female dog care an owner can provide. The benefits to the dog FAR outweigh simply not having puppies.

Spaying involves removal of the uterus and ovaries. It is a major surgery but a commonly performed one, ideally performed while a female dog is still in puppyhood, prior to her first heat cycle which normally occurs between 6 and 8 months of age.

WHY FEMALE DOGS SHOULD BE SPAYED:

  • Prevention of Mammary Cancer
  • Prevention of Pyometra – a life-threatening infection of the uterus
  • Convenience- The female dog comes into heat every 8 months or so. There is a bloody vaginal discharge and local male dogs are attracted. Often there is an offensive odor.

Facts about neutering your dog:

There are several significant health benefits to neutering your dog.  One of the most important concerns the prostate gland, which under the influence of testosterone will gradually enlarge over the course of the dog’s life. In age, it is likely to become uncomfortable, possibly being large enough to interfere with urination and defecation. The prostate under the influence of testosterone is also predisposed to infection, which is almost impossible to clear up without neutering. Neutering causes the prostate to shrink.

Other health benefits of neutering include the prevention of certain types of hernias and tumors of the testicles and anus.  Neutering also decreases aggression, interest in roaming and urine marking.
